Ode to Avery

This year Mother’s Day and Avery’s second- birthday collided for an extra dose of sugary specialness. Miraculously, none of us went into a diabetic coma although there were other side effects.

Somehow, from the early hours of her birthday Avery knew instinctively what turning two would mean for her:
No more holding back!

And so, it is to Avery that I dedicate the following: May your screams soar as high as your dreams. Don’t be shy- let me know how you really feel about sharing your pretzels. Flail your arms and legs with all your toddler might! Don’t bother yourself with the trivial likelihood of giving yourself a concussion on the church pew. Express yourself my little one! Express it loudly, express it well or I might not understand you don’t want me to look at you that way.

I don’t know about your kids, but mine grow up too fast. I really do love this age, despite her being completely unreasonable. Ok, so unreasonable doesn’t even begin to cover it, but besides that she’s also wonderfully affectionate, unlawfully adorable, and encompasses everything sweet and innocent in life. Happy Mother’s Day to me!
