My Friend Casey

Once upon a time there was a dude named Casey. Casey wasn’t a bad dude. He held down a respectable job where he got to wear a uniform and a name badge everyday, and party every night. Casey wasn’t a bad dude. But Casey was a disoriented, drunk dude. One night Casey met the girl of his dreams. Her name was Melanie. Or Emily. He wasn’t completely sure, but he did know that she was everything he was looking for in a woman. He knew she had kind of blondish- brownish- reddish hair, and he knew that what they had was special. He didn’t know exactly where she lived. But that did not concern Casey one little bit. Into his car he staggered, up and down streets he drove until he saw a light. “That must be Melanie’s house!” He thought, “Or Emily’s!” Out of his car, up the steps, he knocked at her door. Todd answered. This was confusing to Casey. Did Melanie or Emily have a brother? No matter, Casey was quick to regain his confidence. “Is Melanie here?” He asked as he peeked expectantly into the Living Room. He saw Andy and a woman. Andy was of small consequence, but the woman- She did have hair. Could this be his lady? “Melanie? Emily?” He called hopefully. In an odd coincidence a woman named Melanie had previously owned the house, but had moved three years earlier. “Melanie moved about three years ago.” Not Melanie, but Diana responded. Casey felt very confused. “Emily?” He tried again. “You’ve got the wrong house.” Andy assured him. “See you later Casey,” Todd began closing the door. There was obviously something fishy going on. “How do you know my name?” Casey wondered out loud. “Its on your shirt dude.” This momentarily blew Casey’s mind. But of course! Casey laughed and pointed to the name of his company on the opposite side of his shirt. In the midst of this ah-ha! moment, Casey had nearly forgotten the task at hand. Nearly, but not entirely and without skipping very many beats at all he regained focus. “Do you know where Melanie lives?” He found these people very unhelpful and strangely mistrustful. But Casey was undaunted. And still quite drunk. He cheerfully got back into his car and continued his search, taking no notice of anyone taking down his license plate number. Because Casey knew a girl like Melanie, or Emily, only comes around once in a lifetime. The End.

  3. Wow! How could anyone (Melanie or Emily or Diana) resist such charms? Did you happen to get his number? …Just in case this whole thing with Andy heads for the crapper, I mean.

  4. Sounds a little bit like this lady I knew growing up, except that she would come to our door at random intervals wearing a warewolf costume and carrying a hand knitted owl and then jump up and say “Boo” when we opened the door. But ya know, kinda the same thing.

  6. Ha ha! Tears are streaming down my face right now as you so eloquently helped me relive that night of not so long ago!!! My side hurts.

That look on his face was classic- as if he didn’t believe us when we said she wasn’t there. I think he thought that we had done away with her and stashed her away or something.

Poor Casey…don’t let this little mishap dissuade you from your search. If it’s any consolation, you are now semi-famous within a small circle of friends.

    Casey + Melanie &/or Emily = heart

  7. How polite of him to smile the entire time, especially with all the confusion going on in his head. Hilarious!

  9. Poor, poor Casey. Is that REALLY his picture? And if so, how did you get it?

I honestly thought it was Andy being goofy until I: 1) quickly realized that’s not Andy’s way, to take a goofy picture just for Diana’s blog, and 2) read the post.

Di, love the new avatar. Did you ever see the Family Guy where the Eye of Sauron is looking for his contact lens?
